The 30-Day Shift: 5 Habits I’m Building

They say it takes 30 days to build a habit. If you show up and do something constantly for a month, it eventually just becomes part of who you are. Right now, there are five specific things I’m working to weave into my life, one way or another.

1. Fitness

Incorporating fitness has made me so much happier mentally, and honestly, it’s done wonders for my physique too. Once I realized the impact of just moving, doing something, anything, every day, I couldn’t go back.

I try to do something small every single day. Whether it’s a long walk, hitting the gym, or heading to a class, I genuinely believe it dictates my entire mood. When I work out, I feel productive, healthy, and “on.” But on the days I don’t? I feel lazy, unmotivated, and like I can barely get out of bed. It changes my whole mindset.

2. Nutrition

I’ve been on a bit of a nutrition kick lately. Everything from hitting three meals a day and staying hydrated to switching out my daily essentials for organic products.

I can honestly see a difference. Now, it could just be the placebo effect (the Mandela effect, as I like to call it!), especially with the product swaps. But with the food and water? My body just feels stronger.

The product side is mostly makeup, hair care, and feminine hygiene. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately and realized how many toxic chemicals are in standard pads and tampons. I’ve actually stopped using tampons entirely and switched to 100% cotton, organic brands that are heavily researched. I didn’t realize how many brands out there affect your fertility, hormones, and pH levels. Even during my period, I feel more energetic and just... happier.

3. Sleep

Sleep has become a non-negotiable priority. I used to be fine on four or five hours, but now? I need my eight hours. If I only get four, I’m unmotivated all day and I inevitably end up taking a nap. That just ruins the whole cycle because then I can’t fall asleep on time at night. It’s a cycle I’m trying to break for good.

4. Journaling

I’ve always been someone who journals, but lately, I’ve been pushing for consistency. Even if it’s just one sentence or a single word, I make sure something gets written down every day. It feels like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. Having that private output—an outlet where you know your words are safe—is everything.

5. Meditation & Prayer

Sikhi has always been a huge part of my life. I’m actually so grateful my parents didn’t force it on me when I was little; because they gave me space, I’ve been able to experience the amazing feeling of discovering it for myself.

Every morning before my workout, I do paath. I used to just listen to it, but my mum convinced me to start reading it myself so I could get a deeper understanding. Now, I do Japji Sahib and Ardaas using an English gutka. The best part is that it includes the translations, so I actually know the meaning of every sentence I’m saying. It’s been incredible.

“Virtue and vice do not come by mere words; actions repeated, over and over again are engraved on the soul. You shall harvest what you plant.” — Guru Nanak Dev Ji
